seagull hunter

This is my newest doll - "seagull hunter"created in a workshop with the wonderful Akira Blount. What a great week we had - sharing, creating, laughing and eating. Thank you Akira and all the wonderful ladies I had the pleasure of sharing time with. You are all an inspiration.

The Seagull Hunter

...not seeking to harm,
just making sure the messages coming back were all good ones.......because we all could use a little filtering from life sometimes!

The seagull is associated with Lir, a Sea-God in Celtic lore. Like many birds, the seagull flies between the earth and the heavenworld, bringing messages to mortals.

The little folklore blurb behind the creation was surprising and gave me goosebumps....because the day after my Mom died...my sister and I were walking on the beach and a seagull swooped past right over our heads ..so close we could have reached out and touched it... and headed straight out to sea.... almost out of our view he made a complete 180 and sailed right back toward us again... passing by right above our heads.... going really fast and with purpose it seemed to us....we looked at each other with eyes as big as saucers.... straight past us he whizzed and turned another 180 only about 10 yards behind us after missing us by inches! and sailed straight out to sea again... making a beautiful figure eight by the end of it....

Our Mom always put an endless figure 8 lying on its side below her name...or when she would address letters or cards.... she called it her infinity sign.....and we were dumbstruck when the silly seagull did that.... tears rolled down our faces and we grinned from ear to ear... not a word spoken......
